FAQ
Questions people ask before sharing the chores.
Quick answers about turns, helping, actual completions, recurring maintenance, QR and NFC task tags, private tasks, and the interactive demo.
What is Done When?
Done When is a shared memory for the things people do together. It is also a lightweight household task manager for shared chores, recurring maintenance, and personal tasks, so everyone can see whose turn it is, who actually completed a task, and when it was last done.
Who is Done When for?
It is designed for households, couples, families, and roommates who share recurring responsibilities and want a lightweight way to keep them clear.
How does chore rotation work?
A Rotation task keeps an ordered fairness queue. The member at the front is shown as next. Any active participant can still help. The actual completer is recorded and moves to the end of the queue; if somebody else helped, the current person stays up next.
What happens if I complete a task when someone else is up next?
Done When records you as the actual completer without pretending the other person did the work. For a Rotation task, that person can stay up next. The completion feedback makes both facts explicit.
Can I assign a task to one person?
Yes. Assigned tasks keep one household member visibly responsible. If another active household member completes it, Done When records the actual completer without changing the assigned person.
Can a task be open to anyone?
Yes. Anyone tasks can be completed by any active member of the household and do not maintain a turn order.
Does Done When show who did a task last?
Yes. A completion records the actual completing member and completion time, and the task can show its last completion and completion history.
Can I track recurring household maintenance?
Yes. Tasks can carry a simple frequency signal, an exact expected interval, or a completion-based recurrence interval. Completion-based recurrence starts the next cycle from the latest real completion.
Can I keep a task private?
Yes. Private tasks are owner-only rather than shared with the rest of the household.
Can I add details when I mark something done?
When enabled for a task, a completion can include optional notes, a measurement, or a duration in addition to the completion time.
Can I use a QR code or NFC tag for a task?
Yes. A task tag can open the exact task from the place where the job happens. Scan or tap the tag, then press Done in the app. The tag never completes a task automatically.
Can I try Done When without creating an account?
Yes. The home page includes an interactive browser-local demo. Changes made in that demo stay in the browser and are separate from real household data.
